Health Care (Case Study)

The principle was contacted by St. Louis ConnectCare (SLCC), a safety net consortium of community health care clinics that provide services for St. Louis City's uninsured population, to assess, develop and implement a quality management program within the organization.

The challenge faced was to assess, develop and ultimately prepare for re-accreditation of its health centers by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC). SLCC previously received its accreditation while operating as a hospital for St. Louis' indigent population; however, within recent years had transitioned to specialty and primary care outpatient facilities. The goal was to develop a quality management program and transform SLCC's policies, procedures and operations into an accredited, fully functional and efficiently run organization focused on the delivery of quality ambulatory patient care and safety.

The results included the development of a quality program that integrated all facets of the organization and aligned its activities to support the strategic direction of the organization. SLCC received full accreditation of its ambulatory care facility. In addition, the firm's services were retained, based on the success of the QM program implementation to address and streamline SLCC's Medical Management operations and serve as the interim director of the department.
